Simply Simplify Language helps public institutions rewrite complex official communication into clear, accessible language — commonly known in German as «Einfache Sprache» or «Leichte Sprache» — using large language models. Beyond rewriting text, it acts as a writing coach, giving staff detailed, sentence-by-sentence feedback, and scores how understandable a text is using the ZIX understandability index, an open-source metric also developed and published by the Canton of Zurich. Its One-Click feature sends a text to multiple configured language models at once and returns several draft versions as a ready-to-use Word document, letting staff quickly compare and pick the best result. The tool is built on OpenRouter, a unified API for accessing commercial models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Mistral AI, which keeps usage costs low and gives full control over which models are used. This reliance on external commercial providers is an important consideration: using the app sends the submitted text to OpenRouter and its partner model providers, so it must not be used with sensitive or confidential data.
