Borehole data is essential for understanding the subsurface and provides a critical foundation for geological analysis and decision-making. At swisstopo, borehole data of national relevance is managed within a centralized database and made accessible to users online, in accordance with defined access rights. The open-source platform boreholes.swissgeol.ch enables the structured, standardized, and harmonized capture of borehole data across stakeholders. By applying common data models and controlled vocabularies, the platform ensures interoperability and facilitates the integration of data from different sources and jurisdictions. A role-based quality assurance workflow supports multi-stage validation and verification processes, ensuring that new datasets meet defined quality standards before publication. This approach strengthens consistency, reliability, and reusability of borehole data, and contributes to a sustainable, interoperable geological data ecosystem.
